Carol Gray

She studied art at UCLA and took many private oil painting lessons with Andrea Day in Santa Monica. She participated in several group shows at the Andrea Day Studio in Santa Monica. Since moving to the Monterey Peninsula approximately 16 years ago, she has studied life drawing and design at Carmel Adult School with Susan Long and Rodney Winfield.

Carol has participated in intensive outdoor workshops given by Gregory Kondos (through the Monterey Museum of Art), Joe Mugnani, Gil Dellinger and others. She continues to work with well-known local artist Dick Crispo, who has been a significant influence on her seascape paintings.

Carol enjoys working from a live model as well as a still life, but her present focus is on en plein aire landscape and seascape painting. In her work Carol strives to create a mood and sense of place in a rather impressionistic manner while using a palette geared toward local color. She is a member of the Monterey Peninsula Art Foundation, Artist's Equity, an associate member of Oil Painters of America and is a docent at the Monterey Museum of Art. Carol can be found most days painting in her studio in the Carmel Highlands or on location anywhere on the Monterey Peninsula.
