Sarah Leonard

As far back as I can remember, I have always been involved in some sort of artistic endeavors: among them, graphic design, stained glass, and I was a middle school art instructor which included letter press printing. That artist’s passion of always wanting to create something of significance and beauty has never left me

About seven years after moving to the Monterey Peninsula from the San Francisco Bay Area in 2004, I discovered the most rewarding, challenging, and engaging artistic journey I had ever attempted and that was painting.

I find my style is evolving to being more impressionistic than realistic. I am drawn to strong colors and fascinated by trying to achieve interest and balance with the best possible composition and capturing strong contrasts that are provided by the ever-varying angles of light.

I have learned so much from and have been inspired by my painting classes, workshops and the local community of fine artists as well as the utter beauty this area has to offer.

I so much enjoy getting to know our local talented artists and being on the Board of the Central Coast Art Association. I have won three awards in CCAA’S juried art exhibits: First Place in Acrylics and two Honorable Mentions. My work has been exhibited in the Pacific Grove Art Center, the Seaside Avery Gallery, the Sally Griffin Senior Center and the West End Celebration. I enjoy contributing to the yearly Monterey Museum of Art’s Miniature Exhibit.
