Steve decided to pursue art as a child after noting the pleasure his father
experienced as a "Sunday Painter". Steve mostly paints impressionistic views of Central Coast landscape and seaside subjects. He also accepts commissions. He stopped trying to accurately depict subjects in ever greater detail for an approach providing more pleasing aesthetic appeal. The focus is now on limiting elements within compositions, gaining better control of values, and using color harmonies.
Steve earned a design degree from San Jose State (BSID) along with a minor in art. His love for painting this area started with his marriage to a Salinas resident, Patricia Barden, in 1966. His design career moved them to New York, Virginia and Pennsylvania retiring in 2009. He painted Central Coast scenes for their home during those years as a hobby. He appreciates Pat's unwavering support, who tolerated paint on clothes and carpets for over 50 years.
His typical painting sizes are: 8x10, 11x14 and 16x20
Steve's Giclee paper reproductions and his unframed original art are both available at the gallery.
